Luca Gemignani was born in Lucca on March, 13, 1963. He received his laurea degree in Mathematics from the University of Pisa in the Academic Year 1987-88. From 1990 to 1997 he was Research Associate at the Mathematics Department of the University of Parma and at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa. From 1998 to 2012 he has been Associate Professor at the Mathematics Department of the University of Pisa. He is now Full Professor of Numerical Analysis at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa. His research interests are concerned with numerical and symbolic computations with matrices and polynomials within the following fields:

 
• fast and superfast solution of structured linear systems;
   
• eigenvalue computation for structured matrices;
   
• approximate solution of nonlinear equations;
   
• integration of numeric and symbolic techniques for geometric and algebraic computing.
