Short Vitae

Gianna M. Del Corso earned her laurea degree (magna cum laude) in Computer Science from the University of Pisa in February 1993. She completed her PhD in Computational Mathematics at the University of Milano in 1997, focusing on randomized algorithms for the algebraic eigenvalue problem under Bruno Codenotti and Henryk Wozniakowski.

Her academic journey includes roles as Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and Visiting Researcher at The Johns Hopkins University. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in Numerical Analysis at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa. In 2020, she achieved habilitation for full professor.

She has also led projects on methods and applications for sparse and data-sparse matrices, numerical aspects of web search, including collaboration with the SQMS center at Fermi Lab focusing on quantum algorithms and machine learning applications in quantum computing.

Her recent research focuses on Quantum Linear Algebra and Quantum Computing. She has served as guest editor of a Special Issue of Internet Mathematics devoted to the topics of the algorithmic aspects of Web search, and is in the editorial board for a special issue of SISC on Quantum Computing. Starting in 2026, she will serve as an Associate Editor of the SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing.
